18th to 20th March 2013: Symposium on Cognitive disorders and remediation in schizophrenia and other mental diseases in Strasbourg
Presentation and aim of the symposium:
Cognitive disorders affecting memory, attention, perception and action are known to play an important role in mental diseases, by impacting the daily life of the patients, and by affecting their social and professional insertion abilities. Cognitive disorders may also sub-tend clinical symptoms. The development of remediation techniques helps to address these difficulties and creates much hope and enthusiasm, also reflected in the number of developed techniques.
However, numerous questions remain. Among them is the understanding of the cognitive disorders, whose mechanisms are still debated, as well as their link with clinical symptoms and neurobiological disorders. Remediation will have to evolve with knowledge, and this requires to develop strong ties between researchers exploring the cognitive disorders and teams developing and applying remediation techniques.
The aim of the symposium is to reinforce these ties by bringing together experts from those fields. The symposium will mainly focus on schizophrenia, but presentations regarding other mental diseases will also be welcome.
Pre-program:
Steve Silverstein, Steffen Moritz, Nicolas Franck, Jean-Marie Danion and members of Til Wykes’ team will present their leading work, together with presenters selected from submitted abstracts by the local organization committee.
Abstract submission conditions:
There will be a poster session. Members of FondaMental and Neurex are welcome to submit abstracts, as well as all researchers involved in the symposium’s topic.
The deadline for abstract submission is January 8th, 2013. The authors are invited to indicate their preference for poster or oral presentation and send their abstract (limited to 300 words, with authors and affiliation) to giersch@unistra.fr
