Le Généraliste: Psychotic disorders
During a press conference organized by Fondation FondaMental, Stéphane Jamain (Inserm) gave a presentation of "misunderstood risk factors". Among the risks identified, the high level use of cannabis during adolescence increases the risk of schizophrenia by 2.5; however other, lesser known, environmental factors have been singled out; for example brain injury and psychological trauma during childhood, infections during pregnancy, obstetrical complications, age of the father and urbanicity in particular.

Unfortunately it is often only in the headline news that attention is drawn to schizophrenia. However, schizophrenia, which is the most severe of all psychotic illnesses, afflicts 1% of the world’s population, and as no precise statistics are available, it can only be assumed that 1% of the population of France suffers from this illness.

Midi Libre: Study on schizophrenia
A study on the impact of environmental and genetic factors in schizophrenia et other psychotic disorders was launched for the first time in France within the framework of the European research programme EUxGEI launched by European community (FP7) under the auspices of Fondation FondaMental. The study has begun in January 2010 in Val-de-Marne and Puy-de- Dôme.
